Why did the Jacobites adopt the White Rose of York for their emblem?

I know that the White Rose of York was adopted by the Jacobites in the eighteenth century, or maybe even earlier than that, but why? Was there some significance about the white rose that they liked? Was it simply a lack of creativity? Or was it something else...?

in spring, it blooms and york smell of lovely rose scent. it is a symbol of york of purity of love of cleanliness, of godliness
