What are those Greek letters on banners supposed to mean?
When I watch TV sitcoms as South Park or American Dad, I can see banners on houses from time to time on which I can read Greek letters. I know the Greek alphabet, so I looked those possible abbreviations up, but I didn't find anything. Neither am I from the U.S., nor am I Greek, so can anyone introduce me in this thing? I have no clue what those banners are about.

The Greek letters on the banners refer to specific sororities and fraternities. Hence the term "Greek" when referring to members of these organizations.
