how to rebuild a piece of a resin statue/ figure?
Hello.
I was going about painting my moms garden gnomes, when my kids broke the hand off one...
I can not locate the hand. Is there a material I can use to rebuild it? They are made of resin, and are hollow. It needs to be very durable and last through the elements. I am quite handy with molding and forming figures, but the only things I've found are liquids..:(
Oh, side note...they are rien poortvliet gnomes on a swing...can't find them ANYWHERE!! That's why I need a fix, instead of buying new...plenty of lookalikes though...ok too much info. But if your into that and know where to find them...just a thought ![]()
Thanks!!
I would look into an automotive body filler such as Bondo or an epoxy putty such as Tech Steel. You should be able to find both, or similar, in an automotive store. They both are shapeable, harden quickly by a reactive process, can be easily filed and sanded when dry, paint well and have similar properties to the resin that the ornament is made out of. I would tend to suggest the putty first because it is firmer and more mouldable but be aware that it hardens in a few minutes. You will need to form a rough shape and then fine tune when fully hardened.
