Toque Knit

Does anyone outside Canada call toques by their right name?
It kind of annoyed me a bit when tourists call toques beanies or something else and I had no clue what they were talking about until it was too late. What is wrong with the word toque that people don't use it everywhere? I mean it's a lot more specific then "beanie" which I thought was a completely different kind of hat, or "Knit Hat" bluuh!!
toque is pronounced the same as tuque
A beanie is a child's round hat, made like a Ball Cap but with a small brim or no brim.
I consider it blasphemy against hosermania...eh?
