Should I remove the berries from my showy mountain ash tree?
This is my second year with this tree. The first year, the tree had berries, and over the winter the birds ate every one. In the spring, the tree had no berries when the new leaves came out. This year over the winter, for some reason, the birds did not eat the berries off the tree, and now it's spring and the leaves are coming out, but the tree is full of old berries. Should I cut all the berries off the tree? Will they eventually fall off on their own? If I don't remove the berries, will the berries take energy from the tree and hinder its ability to grow new leaves and new berries?
The berries form seeds. They fall to the ground and make baby Mountain Ash's. I have two I dug up with a spoon from under my mom's Mountain Ash. They are huge now! Natures way will never hurt any plant. If you want to take them off, plant them and give your neighbors a start.
They smell wonderful!
