World's Worst Packer Needs Advice?
I travel for work plenty and I'm okay with that, but for vacation travel I can't seem to cut back. I am going to Europe for 10 days on a Mediterranean cruise. If I take a 27" bag & a carry on suitcase is that too much? I need to buy the bag I am checking so I am trying to decide what size.
i am an avid overpacker myself, so i feel your pain. ill share some of what i do, and hopefully that will help you.
what i almost always overpack on is clothing. its understandable. you never know what the weather will be like, or what activities you will be doing, and what outfits you'll need. for your 10 day cruise, i bet you'll probably try to pack 20 different outfits. i would too. its not like we try to, it just happens. so make 10 your maximum number. 10 sets of socks and underwear. one swimsuit is all you need. while you may try to pack 10 pairs of pants/shorts, its likely that you'll probably reuse those. pants and shorts dont usually get dirty as quickly, so its common to wear them 2-3 times before washing them. so bring 3 shorts and 3 pants, or whatever combo you like, but try to keep it around a total of 6. i would pack 12 shirts, because with that many, you'll feel like you have your whole wardrobe with you. you'll never be at a loss for an outfit to wear. shirts are what give your outfit variety and they are small, so they pack easy. also, pack as few shoes as possible.
so now that you have your clothing taken care of, pack the rest of your essentials. computer? Cell Phone and charger? toothbrush/toothpaste, shampoo/conditioner/soap. any meds or other misc stuff you Must Have.
once you pack it like that, you'll feel like youre forgetting a lot, but once your trip is done, youll still have a lot that you hadnt even used.
