Good Luck
Is there a culture in which your first-born being a male is considered good luck?

Is having the first-born child in a family be a male considered good luck or that it would lead to prosperity in any culture around the world? Conversely is having your first-born child a female considered bad luck in any culture?

In most European and Eastern Cultures it is certainly better to have sons , no matter if they are first, last etc. In previous centuries and even in today in countries around the world , women could not inherit property so,
A daughter means that you must find a suitable husband of good means , then finance a wedding and a dowry.
Or if the daughter does not marry (much to the parents and societies dismay) and does not become a nun , a housekeeper/nanny , you must dish out money to support her, and then when you die , your son will have to provide her a small allowance, thus she is still a burden.

If you have no sons, you will have to find a trustworthy man who can oversee your assets so that when you die , your daughter might be allowed an allowance, thus to this man also , she is a burden.

However men who have sons and no daughters (or has married them off), can rest assured that they will only have to worry over his money and other assets upon his death, and then , the eldest son takes the responsibility.

The tradition of sons being very lucky still holds true in some cultures. In China, it is a very strong tradition , where first borns that are daughters are killed and never spoken of , like nothing happened, or the fetus when found to be a girl is aborted, or if born , she is placed for adoption , or neglected upon the streets so that none will know. While others don't care what order their children are born in , as long as there is a son to continue on the family name.
