Flex Cap
Flex Cap

I just bought a 57 chevy truck and the temp is about 230 degrees at least.?
I've replaced the fan with a flex fan, a 13 lb radiator cap, a 160 degrees thermostat, new water pump, and all hoses. It still gets hot. A friend told me it might be scale in the engine, how do I get rid of it without breaking into the engine or would I have to? Thank you.
1. look at the coolant flow through the opening at the top of the radiator while the engine is hot. (take off the radiator cap while the engine is cold) If you don't see a good flow of coolant, then you either have plugged coolant passages in the engine, blocked radiator, sticking thermostat, or a collapsed radiator hose.
2. Look for evidence of bubbles in your coolant, oil in your coolant, or whitish foam in your engine oil. Any of these things point to a failed head gasket.
3. If ALL of the above check out ok, then look at ignition timing and the fuel system to make sure that both systems are in spec.
4. The most common thing that happens is that the old radiator has blocked tubes, and should be sent out to be re-furbished. (or replaced)
